Practical Information About the Prison Museum

On this page, you'll find practical information to help you make the most of your visit to the Prison Museum.

FÆNGSLET offers 800 free parking spaces, including a limited number of parking spaces for coaches.

P1 is reserved for Prison Museum visitors. Accessible parking spaces are located near the main entrance at the Green Gate. There are 20 EV charging stations across P1 and P2.

During busy periods, you can also park in the surrounding area or use the alternative parking spaces at Vesthallen on Fussingsvej, just a few minutes' walk from the main entrance.

Please note that coaches bringing museum visitors cannot be guaranteed parking on concert days. However, depending on the event, they may drop off and pick up passengers close to FÆNGSLET.

Coaches bringing guests cannot be guaranteed parking on or immediately before concert days. However, depending on the event, passengers may be dropped off and picked up close to FÆNGSLET.

FÆNGSLET is located 1.6 km from Horsens Railway Station. When leaving the station, you'll see FÆNGSLET up to your left. The walk takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or bus no. 9 from Nørretorv.

For trade fairs, exhibitions and other large-scale events, the spacious workshop halls are easily accessible via the vehicle gate.

FÆNGSLET is a historic building dating back to 1853, when accessibility was not part of the original design.

To improve access, we have installed ramps, lifts and other accessibility features throughout the Prison Museum, making it possible for visitors with reduced mobility and wheelchair users to explore the exhibition areas on different levels.

Please note that the ramps leading into the building are quite steep and may be difficult to use without assistance. Our reception staff will be happy to help if needed. A few smaller rooms have narrow doorways, which may make access difficult for larger wheelchairs.

Accessible parking is available close to the main entrance, and an accessible toilet is located inside the building.

Visitors to the Prison Museum who hold a valid Companion Card may bring one companion free of charge upon presentation of the card.

Food and drinks are not permitted inside the Prison Museum. You're welcome to visit Brasserie FÆNGSLET before or after your visit. Read more about Brasserie FÆNGSLET.

Dogs are not permitted inside the Prison Museum, but they are welcome on FÆNGSLET's outdoor areas when kept on a lead.

Certified service dogs are welcome inside the museum. Please remember to bring valid documentation and present it at the reception upon arrival.

If your dog can be left alone, you may leave it (unsupervised) in a designated area of our front courtyard while you visit the museum. Water bowls can be borrowed from the museum shop—please ask a member of staff, who will be happy to provide water for your dog.

Please remember to clean up after your dog.

Yes, you're welcome to take photos in the Prison Museum for personal use. However, flash photography is not permitted, as it may damage the museum's objects. Please be considerate of other visitors when taking photos, and note that tripods are not allowed.

You're welcome to share your photos on your personal social media profiles. Please remember not to post photos of other visitors or members of staff without their permission. We'd love to see your photos—feel free to use #prisonmuseum or #faengslet.

If the primary purpose of your visit is to take photographs or record video, you must arrange a photoshoot rental agreement in advance. Read more here.
